Indian Summer is a meteorological phenomenon referring to an unexpectedly sunny period, and consistently above normal temperatures. The term can also be used metaphorically to mean a renaissance, or revival.

Indian Summer Arts Society (ISAS) is a Vancouver-based not-for-profit secular arts organization founded in 2011. We are dedicated to promoting, showcasing and building public awareness of artists of South Asian origin in the performing, visual, literary and folk arts and fostering dialogue between Canada and South Asia, and within communities in Canada. To achieve our mandate, in 2011, we founded the annual Indian Summer Festival, with support from SFU Woodward’s Cultural Unit and Teamwork Arts India (the producers of the Jaipur Literature Festival, the world’s largest free literary festival). The Indian Summer Festival celebrates arts, ideas and diversity in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland each July, and is currently going into its fourth edition. As founding festival directors, Artistic Director Sirish Rao leads the creative vision and Managing Director Laura Byspalko steers operations. They are supported by a dedicated and dynamic Leadership Council, Board of Directors and team of seasonal employees and volunteers.
