Cayla Brooke, the jazz-rock, blue-jean and heels, throwback vocal powerhouse and probably one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets, debuts her much anticipated CD “Plush Red Chair”
The album of ten original songs (co written by Cayla and BC Entertainment Hall of fame inductee Bill Sample) pieces together personal moments from Brooke’s life. Telling stories of heartbreak, love, survival and the indelible nature of the human spirit. Her comfort within the contrasting styles and tempos of each song holds the listener as they travel along for the ride.
But it’s Cayla’s innate soulfulness and personality that ties each composition together. From the original artwork on the cover of the CD by world renown artist James Picard, to “Fool” a blues/rock duet with Emmy Nominated John Lee Sanders, or the highly personal bluesy ballad “You Didn’t Break Me” with Vancouver icon Shari Ulrich as a featured back-up vocalist, Plush Red Chair is a debut album to be listened to and savoured.
“Society tells us that once we reach a certain age we’re done.” Something Cayla has a hard time swallowing. “We have so much to offer! So many of us are folding up when we’re just about to blossom. I say, unless we’re boots up, it ain’t over!”
For the CD release concert Cayla is joined on stage by her stellar four-piece band made up of some of Vancouver’s finest musicians. Bill Sample, Rene Worst, Andreas Schuld and Buff Allen as well as special guests Tom Pickett and Jane Mortifee.
