The Dundarave Festival has always been a proving ground for some of the best performers in our local music scene. This is a reality for us because of the dedication and love David Newberry, the bard on the Festival’s beach, has brought to bringing the finest singer songwriters our way, including The Nautical Miles and The Tourist Company. David Newberry and The Tourist Company have been named to the Peak Performance Project Top 12 for 2014. This to say, there’s a whole lot of magic shaking out in the Dundarave Festival Longhouse.
From the exuberantly druidic steps of Morris dancing to show tunes and children’s choirs, the Dundarave Festival of Lights lets the best spirit of our community blaze out in the darkest time of the year. It gathers us together as neighbours and friends in the pure joy of music. Christmas 2014 brings four Saturdays of fabulously festive and free entertainment, from the Dundarave Christmas Fair on November 29th to the legendary Christmas Wassail and Bonfire Night on December 20th. Set in the heart of coastal British Columbia’s largest outdoor display of Christmas trees, there’s no place on Earth like it.
Ending Homelessness Beautifully
In the true spirit of Christmas, the Festival’s “Forest of Miracles” calls out the better angels in all of us to make sure no one is left out in the cold. Sponsored and decorated by families, community groups and businesses, the Festival’s Christmas trees on beautiful Dundarave Beach have raised over $120,000 over five Christmases past for the Lookout Shelter. West Vancouver’s firefighters deserve special mention for their heroic support of the Shelter. The Lookout Emergency Aid Society has used this money to support essential services for the homeless, doubling the transitional services it provides to the most vulnerable people in our community.
