A mesmerizing and powerful story about two teenage sisters who are forced to fend for themselves in a society that may be on the brink of collapse. Based on Jean Hegland’s novel of the same name, Into the Forest takes place in the not-too-distant future, as a massive power outage overwhelms all of continental North America. Living with their recently widowed father (Callum Keith Rennie) in a house hidden away in the woods of Northern California, sisters Nell (Ellen Page) and Eva (Evan Rachel Wood) gradually become aware of the severity of their situation. Through precarious conditions, the two are forced to face an uncertain future in which they have to figure out how to survive on their own. Together they face dangers and an unknown that both test and strengthen their relationship under extreme circumstances.
Reminiscent of Margaret Atwood’s A Handmaid’s Tale, Into the Forest, is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking story of hope and despair set in a frighteningly plausible near-future America.
