A unique exhibition featuring Canadian artist Andre Prevost and his journey with the majesty of the enduring west coast totems.
Although not an Indigenous artist, he has had a lifelong love, admiration and respect of First Nations traditions, art, carvings, and especially the West Coast Totems; the great icons of the West Coast Aboriginal Peoples.
His own experience in his artwork through the years, since his studies at the Banff School of Fine Arts (Banff Centre) in the late 1970s, has been guided by tradition and reverence. He approaches this series of totems paintings in the same manner; in deep respect endeavoring to capture the essence of strength, energy, and nobility of the great works carved by the Masters. He remains open to where this journey with the totems will take him and trusts each totem image to guide his path.
This exhibition presents a series focused on facets of west coast totems, like facets in a cut gemstone, unique in this genre.
