Old Growth Conservancy Snowshoe Hike

Event Details

Hi-View Lookout (2nd switchback on Cypress Bowl Road)

Join us on Saturday, February 16th as we survey how the SE corner of the Conservancy has been changed forever. This section of the Conservancy was hit by a dramatic wind storm earlier this winter. A number of trees were downed across Hollyburn, including several on the Conservancy Crossing Trail and some right over the lowbridge. Sadly, we lost one of the Eustace Smith Blaze trees. Plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. at Hi-View Lookout (2nd switchback on the Cypress Bowl Road) to carpool up to Parking Lot #5 or meet us at Parking Lot #5 at 10:30 a.m.. Snow tires are required on the Cypress Bowl Road. Bring a lunch and beverage. Wear water-resistant outerwear over warm layered winter clothes, and sturdy water-resistant boots. Snowshoes have been needed on most of these trips, though not all. Hiking or ski poles are advised. Snowshoes/poles can be rented for $12/day from Mountain Equipment Co-op at the North Van store, 212 Brooksbank Avenue , 604-990-4417. Reservations should be made a week in advance. Please email us at ogcs.wv@gmail.com if you plan to attend so we can notify you about last minute weather reports or trip cancellation due to weather. For those that want to see the spectacular ancient trees in the apex of the Conservancy, a more traditional hike is planned on Saturday, March 16th.
