Spend your Valentines’ Day afternoon ‘between madness and banality’ – a classical piano concert with the ever-popular Sarah Hagen and Anne Grimm.

With works by Strauss, Poulenc, Berg, and Weill, the duo will tell stories of love, frustration, hope, insanity, and ridiculousness in numerous languages, including a special Dutch surprise.

About the Artists

Pianist Sarah Hagen has been hear in the concert halls and on the airwaves throughout North America and Europe.  Her interpretations have been described as ‘outstandingly inventive’, and performed with ‘infinite skill’.

She is Artistic Director of numerous concert series in BC and also of Project Sound, a performance project involving live piano with large-scale projected images.  Her solo album, Glass House Dancing was nominated for Classical Recording of the Year at the 2009 Western Canadian Music Awards.  Sarah recently released her second album, Devoted: Music of Robert & Clara Schumann, featuring solo piano works and Clara Schumann’s Romances, Opus 22 with violinist Marin Chalifour.  As a First Prize winner in the 2013 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, she was awarded the opportunity to perform solo at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in May 2013.

On the concert stage, Anne Grimm has toured Europe and recorded regularly with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ambronay, Salzburg) as well as with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, the Amsterdamse Bachsolisten under Roy Goodman (Concertgebouw), the Rotterdams Philharmonic under Rozhdestvensky and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra under Christian Zacharias. She has performed Mozart’s ‘Exultate Jubilate’ for the Royal Household of the Netherlands and Belgium under Massimo Zanetti and toured with Frans Bruggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century in Rameau’s ‘Les Indes Galante’.

She has been a soloist with multiple orchestras and groups in North America such as Tanglewood, the National Arts Centre under Pinchas Zuckerman, Toronto’s Tafelmusik and Continuum, Victoria Symphony, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Cleveland Baroque, CBC Music from Montreal and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival.  Recently she presented a recital at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam with the Leupold Trio. Grimm has recorded for Erato, Harmonia Mundi, NM Classics, Vanguard Classics, Troubadisc and Sony.
