For almost half a century, the Easter weekend has marked the date of one of the largest events for Pacific Northwest sailing. The Southern Straits Yacht Race, hosted by the West Vancouver Yacht Club, offers sailors the unique opportunity to compete in an overnight distance race around Georgia Strait.
Now offering five different course length options, “Straits” provides a weekend of sailing to suit every experience. 2018 will mark the 50th Anniversary for this historic race and we are expecting northwards of 100 boats (that’s over 800 sailors!) to be on the Start Line jostling for position. Bring your camera!
Each year the Race starts off Dundarave Pier at the bottom of 25th Avenue in West Vancouver with a family friendly festival-type atmosphere that offers those on the shore the opportunity to view the competitors up close as boats come within 50 feet of the Pier. Typically a crowd of several hundred people gather to see the Fleet off in conjunction with a Lions Pancake Breakfast, The West Vancouver Pops Band, Sponsor displays and of course, the much anticipated visit from the Easter Bunny.
Activities start on Friday, March 30th, 2018 at 9:00am. We look forward to seeing you there!
