Come celebrate the joys of spring with the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival! The festival kicks off Thursday April 4th with the FREE Cherry Jam Downtown concert (11am to 1:30pm, Burrard Skytrain station). On the weekend (April 6 and 7th), take in Sakura Days Japan Fair for the whole family at VanDusen Botanical Garden. The following Saturday, April 13th, at 12:45, is the spectacular World Umbrella Dance. Watch hundreds of dancing cherry blossom umbrellas perform a choreographed dance on the Art Gallery Plaza, or take part by learning the dance at one of our rehearsals (visit vcbf.ca/events/world-umbrella-dance). New this year is the Sakura Illumination Tour, in which projection art by Stuart Ward will light up the blossoms after dark. Stay tuned for dates and locations. The festival has many other ongoing events, including Plein-air Painting at VanDusen every Saturday in April, Tree Talks and Walks, BC Blossom Watch photo contest, a haiku contest, and Bike the Blossoms. Also, check out the Cherry Blossom Viewing Google Map for updates on the best blossoming locations. Visit vcbf.ca for all the festival has to offer. Photo credit: Aziz Dhamani.
