The Municipality of West Vancouver was incorporated on March 15, 1912. Some homes in West Vancouver date back to the 1920s and 30s, though most of the currently existing dwellings were built in the 1970s and 80s and mostly in British Pacific Properties’ and waterfront developments.
West Vancouver Council is the elected decision-making body for the District and is comprised of the mayor and six councillors. The mayor is the chief executive officer. Under the Local Government Act, Council sets budgets, levy taxes and establishes policies to guide the growth, development and operation of the District.
Mayor Mary-Ann Booth is flanked by Councillors Sharon Thompson, Nora Gambioli, Bill Soprovich, Peter Lambur, Marcus Wong and Craig Cameron. The existing team is working hard to incorporate residential retention, business and visitor growth strategies and future green initiatives. The current Mayor and Council shall govern through to late 2022 when the next civic election will be called.
