Our future is in the eyes of our children. West Vancouver is a great place to raise kids because of the various education options, pre-schools and daycare providers. The area also has a number of kid-friendly play facilities including parks and rec centres with specific programs to keep your younger family members busy and happy.
Our community rec centre as one of the best indoor pools in the lower mainland that offers swim classes for young people everyday. There is also a Youth Lounge at the Community Centre. The Ambleside Youth Centre, located in Ambleside Park, provides a drop-in place for teens in grades 8 – 12 to play pool, watch movies, take place in a musical talent show or enjoy special “Food Nights”. If you and and your friends just want to hang out, the centre has a cool lounge with WiFi, video games, board games, guitars, even a computer. You can also use the quiet meeting areas for your homework or studies. There is a concession stand and a covered patio with a seasonal barbecue. Outreach workers at the centre have the experience to offer support to youth and their parents.
The close-by Ambleside Pitch and Putt is a great place to play a short round right in the heart of West Van. Gleneagles Recreation Centre is another terrific resource for younger people providing a Youth Garage that even has a late night program. The skateboard and terrain park are located beside Gleneagles centre and include a mountain bike and BMX track plus a concrete skate park for boarders, both skate and longboard. A modern gym offers sports of all types, every day. Field trips, cooking classes, dances, arts and crafts, BBQ’s, pizza nights and theme parties are other reasons to check it out.
