About the band:

Based in North Vancouver, B.C., the Black Bear Band was formed in September 2004 under the Direction of Mr. Ken Osterreicher, former Director of Bands at Argyle Secondary School.

While its original purpose was to meet the pent-up social and musical needs of a few adults who haven’t been “invited out to play” for a long time, the band has in fact attracted adults of all ages and abilities and continues to grow in membership with each passing year. At present, the ensemble numbers at approximately 60 members.

Currently under the musical and artistic direction of Maestro Rob McLeod – Highschool Administrator and professional Low Brass educator and performer in the Vancouver area – the Black Bear Band rehearses and performs a variety of concert band pieces spanning genres from classical to contemporary, and typically performs 8-10 times publically per year.

We meet on Monday nights from 7:30-9:30pm at the Argyle Secondary School – Band room – 1131 Frederick Road, North Vancouver

Following practice there is often an optional “debriefing” session at our sponsoring establishment, the Black Bear Neighbourhood Pub at Lynn Valley Centre – www.blackbearpub.com. We thank them for their support of our ensemble.

Our band is a community musical society and is open to all adults who play any wind or percussion instrument. We invite you to come to a rehearsal and check out our band.
