Every year, I can’t wait for our local Harmony Arts Festival! WestVancouver.com and NorthVancouver.com are thrilled to sponsor this incredible event, which started small back in 1990 as a celebration of arts, crafts, culture, and live music by the sea. We’ve attended every year without fail, and we just love it!
One highlight is the Best of the West food and wine competition which is held outdoors on our stunning Ambleside pier.
Local restaurants pair with wineries to create special dishes, and guests sip, sample, and vote for their favorites. But, I especially loved OEB’s shrimp and lobster egg crepe, and Parc Living’s stunning presentation of lamb tenderloin. A big shout-out also to my local favourite teams from Earls, Milestones, and Mangia E Bevi.
On the wine side, I stuck to the whites and tried Spier’s Chenin Blanc from South Africa, a Pinot Gris from Tinhorn Creek BC, and Roche Wines’ Pinot Blanc from Naramata. But every dish and winery here is a winner!
The festival itself was another huge success overall with artisans and craft tents lining the streets and food trucks like Dos Amigos’ tacos feeding the crowds. Next year however, I’m hoping they bring back some old favourites, like the Thai rice bowl truck, and, of course, the fish and chip truck for sure!
And how much fun is it to dance to live music every night with bands like The Paperboys, Coco Jafro and Side One. There also had to be close to 2,000 people in the park when Nearly Neil performed on Friday night. It was amazing.
So it’s another fabulous festival year in the books – and a huge thank you to the hardworking staff and volunteers for making it all happen. For us – it’s all about the friendly faces and fun we get to have snapping photos and more. West Vancouver – you should be proud.
So until the next event – I’m reminding you to visit us online and in print – and please stay in touch and save me a smile!
