Barney Bentall – is a Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter who is most well known for his 1990s-era band, Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. Their most successful Canadian singles included “Something to Live For”, “Life Could Be Worse”, “Crime Against Love” and “Come Back to Me”. Although it is rarely mentioned, he is also a member of the prominent Bentall family of Dominion Construction and the Bentall Centre, in downtown Vancouver, BC. He has also recorded under the pseudonym Brandon Wolf.
After ten years of recording and touring with the Legendary Hearts, Bentall started a cattle ranch in 1997 in British Columbia. Then in 2006, he released his first solo album titled Gift Horse on True North Records on August 3, 2006. In 2008, he released a DVD of his live The Grand Cariboo Opry show, which included a 12-track audio CD.
In 2009, Bentall joined Shari Ulrich and Tom Taylor to release the album “Live” at Cates Hill.
His son Dustin Bentall is also a professional musician.
Jim Byrnes – Is a blues musician, guitarist, and actor. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to a homemaker mother and a municipal accountant father. He has lived in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, since the mid-1970s. On February 26, 1972, he was struck by a passing car while he attempted to help a friend move a stalled truck, which caused him to lose both his legs. Fifteen years to the day after the accident, he started appearing on Wiseguy as Daniel Burroughs, better known as Lifeguard. It was his first major role and lasted until 1990. Later, he starred in the fantasy television series Highlander: The Series as Joe Dawson, a member of a secret society known as the “Watchers.” He reprised his role as Joe Dawson in Highlander: Endgame and Highlander: The Source, later installments of the Highlander film series, as well as providing voices for the anime Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. He starred in his own short-lived TV show, called The Jim Byrnes Show.
His other television roles include Higher Ground and cartoon voices in Beast Wars: Transformers, Beast Machines: Transformers, Shadow Raiders, Stargate Infinity, Dinosaur Train as Percy Paramacellodus, Colonel Nick Fury in X-Men: Evolution and as Duke Dermail in Gundam Wing. He appeared in the Taken mini series, which broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel and an episode of Twilight Zone entitled “Harsh Mistress”. He has also appeared on the Syfy series Sanctuary, appearing as the father of Helen Magnus, played by Amanda Tapping and as Shineoa San in an episode of Andromeda as well as the voice of Virgil Vox in nine additional episodes.
As a musician, Byrnes has won the Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year three times, for That River in 1996 and House of Refuge on Black Hen Music in 2007, and for “Everywhere West” in 2011. Byrnes was also honoured at the 2006 Maple Blues Awards, as Male Vocalist of the Year, and at the 2006 and 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
John Mann – Is a Canadian rock musician and actor. He is the lead vocalist (and, with Geoffrey Kelly, one of the principal songwriters) for the folk rock band Spirit of the West. He has also released two solo albums, Acoustic Kitty and December Looms; his third solo album, The Waiting Room, is slated for release in 2014.
In the 1980s, he studied theatre at Studio 58 in Vancouver, but then gave it up when he joined Spirit of the West.
He has appeared in several television shows as a guest actor, including Dark Angel, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, Whistler, Cold Squad, Smallville, Da Vinci’s Inquest and Blood Ties, and played recurring characters in the series Haunted and Intelligence. He also played a minor speaking role in the film Underworld: Evolution.
He played dual roles in the 2001 film Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal. The characters he portrayed are Slade Craven, the goth rocker who stages a concert in a 747 and Simon Flanders, a passenger of the flight who is a Satanic fan planning to crash the plane in Stull, Kansas in the disguise of Craven. Brian Dobson does the voice of Simon and during the hand-to-hand combat, Mann played Craven and Simon is played by Mann’s stunt/body double.
His theatre credits include Of Mice and Men at The Vancouver Playhouse, The Three Penny Opera with The Vancouver Opera, Miss Saigon at The Arts Club Stanley Theatre, Joni Mitchell: The River at The Vancouver Playhouse and Cabaret at The Arts Club Stanley Theatre, playing The Emcee.
In 2010, he starred in a stage production of Bruce Ruddell’s rock musical Beyond Eden, which was mounted in Calgary and Vancouver.
